What is your level of internet anonymity?
Two things:
1) I realized I am registered as “trevor.” Brett registered me, I don’t know what I would have chosen, but on other websites I prefer to remain anonymous.
2) I didn’t recognize a user and it made me uncomfortable, b/c my name was out there, I had to ask.
thoughts?

I have to admit that I don’t worry about people finding out who I am on line… But that my be because with a last name like mine it has a level of anonymity built in… But most of the time I don’t mind letting people online know my first name. With a name like “Trevor” and that all we know, then are you not at least a little unknown?
No. No level of anonymity. Google what we know of T’s name and the two initials that loom largest academically and athletically in his/our posts.
I’m with Greg on this one. It would be a bit difficult figuring out exactly who we are, unless you pretty much knew anyway. Plus with the nature of the site, I don’t care who knows this is me anyway. I yam what I yam. Take it or leave it. I wouldn;t say anything here I don’t stand behind anyway.
Now if this were an S&M site say…I would probably choose some stupid made up name.
TDog, i would have liked this post better if it would have come prior to me splashing my photo. But, as they say, what can you do?
Damnit.
I think first names are fine. Also, when you let people know who you are, some level of accountability for the things you say on blogs is required, which I think is good. You definitely don’t want to make yourself or your phone number or address to obvious though.
I read a blog written by a coworker, and while she is very careful never to reveal her name or the names of her family members, she puts many photographs of her family (including her pre-teen daughter) on the blog. Also, she posted a picture of her cat once with the cat’s tag prominently showing her phone number and address. That’s just stupid. I’ve actually heard her at work complaining about having a stalker. Well duh…
Like most things in life, its all about common sense.
By the way trev, Thank You.
