Here is me. At Quik-E-Mart. Yes, that Quik-E-Mart. Yes, that is a Squishee in my hand. Yes, it was delectable.

Unfortunately they didn’t have duff beer, but they did have squishee’s (pictured) astroman comics, buzz cola, sprinklee doughnuts and krusty o’s cereal.

Beth told me about this last week, actually, she called from the store…she has her moments.

Excellent pics, I really have no idea what to think about this. Has there been a time when a fictional product became real as a promotional tool? Bubba Gump Shrimp? But that was more after the fact, more “real” in that it was a reaction to market demand, not a producer. I’m not sure exactly how, but this is imp’t.

oh, blah, trevor! This is fun, not important! What about sci fi inventing things that then became actual products later (Star Trek, whatever). Don’t kids toys do this all the time? Universal Studios? Disneyworld?

Why does everything have to be important to be worthwhile?

What I want to know is, did the squishee taste any different than a slurpee?

alupa, you should slyly be flipping the camera (and us) the bird with your squishee hand there. Very, very nice post.

Actually Liz, it’s funny that you ask…

It was actually just cherry Slurpee goodness in a Squishee glass, which was collectable.

In fact, i was thinking that it was super duper ironical that the writers of the Simpsons originally created this alternate universe in which they had to use the name Squishee so as not to get their asses sued off by the real company, only to sign a deal with that very company years later in a manificent display of cross-promotion for the movie.

Hows that for a slice of fried gold?

“…business has shot up about 300% since putting up the Kwik-E-Mart signage June 30.

Most of that comes from the movie-related merchandise (which is stocked in non-Kwik-E-Mart 7-Elevens as well) — and more than a few hot dogs. “I usually sell 800 hot dogs a week,” Sahni said. “Now I’m selling about 3,000 a week.”"
