This is sad. I admit that I am part of the problem. I prefer the convenience of mp3 files to that of CDs. CD’s are a hassle and the get scratched. I don’t want to buy my favorite CD’s over and over like I used to.
The YouTube example made a good point that us consumers own the volume dial and not the record execs. They can try to play the volume war, but they will always lose. It would be nice if they realized that and started letting their audio engineers do their job of making the music as impactful as possible without compromising sound fidelity.
