And another thing…

So this is basically the scariest thing i’ve ever seen relating to copyright laws and their abuse.

Happy Monday!

Google Reader

T-Lo and I use google reader (a RSS feed manager) to sort through our various online readings. It has a fairly new function where you can “share” an article. We’ve started sharing, and it’s fun. Even if you don’t use google reader regularly, it might be entertaining for you to check out once in a while. Most of you will see our shared items when you open it up since you have gmail accounts. If for some reason you are gmailing and it doesn’t show, lemme know.

Design like you’ve got a pair…

I realize that this probably will miss the mark with some of you kids, but none-the-less, here’s a link to my latest creative ideology. Please note: the image at bottom of page is the philosophy, not the image at top.

For those that use Firefox, version 3 is out today and the makers of the browser are trying to set a world record. Please download and install it today. I’ve have been using the release candidates for a couple of months now and can attest to its stability and its speed. It is so much faster at responding to web applications. Plus it has many great improvements. Get it today and help a web developer out.

For those who use Internet Explorer, please for the love of God, switch to Firefox. It is superior in nearly every way to IE.

Just got paid for buying something online

So, Microsoft has developed a new search engine to rival froogle and they are sweetening the deal by giving a cashback bonus. And I am surprised to say it really works-well. I’ve been online shopping for a cargo bag to put on the roof of my car for about a week, trying to find the best deal. It only took about 20 minutes on Microsoft’s search engine to end up saving about $20 plus the $8.99 Microsoft is giving me. I highly recommend it.

Learning from the virtual you

There is no doubt that the internets have entangled themselves into our lives. NPR has a fascinating interview with Jeremy Bailenson of Standford’s Virtual Human Interaction Lab about how a person’s virtual persona (ala Second Life type virtual realities) affects their everyday life from gaining confidence to losing weight.

NPR’s Learning from the virtual you audio clip

I don’t have experience with Second Life version of me other than my Nintendo Wii mii, which looks a lot like Mr. Garrison crossed with Elton John crossed with David Cross - let me tell you, that is great for my self esteem :} I do think the internet has affected me in other ways, some for the better, some for the worse. The most apparent thing that sticks out to me is that I don’t read the same as I did 10 years ago. I tend to skim looking for bullet points and quick understanding rather than ruminating on points and trying to really understand the nut of a passage. Obviously, this is not a good thing. On the positive side, the internet has truly influence my position on intellectual property by observing remarkable people share their hard work for free. That truly amazes me in many, many ways, but I’ll digress from that for now.

My question to all of you is how has the internet changed/enriched/affected you?

Google Streetview coming to Lawrence?

I have seen a VW Beetle with an Immersive Media logo on the door in downtown Lawrence over the past few days. I think this means that Google is imaging Lawrence for their nifty, if not scary, Street Level view of Google Maps. I’ve didn’t see it driving, so maybe they were just stopping by for some sweet football action on their way to another destination.

A personal challenge

What a fun way to take a work break!  Each vocab word you get right, they donate 10 grains of rice to someone somewhere.  What’s important is I am at vocab level 40.  Beat that!
